My Plan Is To Show You That I Understand

This week was my mom’s birthday, and it felt good just to slow down and hang out with her. Every year, her stories hit a little different. The older I get, the better they get—probably because I’m finally able to hear them not just as her child, but as another adult trying to make sense of life.

I’ve been learning to make space in my mind for her to be more than just “Mom.” She’s a whole person, with dreams, heartbreaks, and a wisdom that was earned.

This week's playlist (Prolific Volume 4) starts with a track dedicated to mothers. I made it originally to comfort a friend who had lost hers—but of course, it spoke to me too. It’s a reminder of the strength, love, and resilience that mothers carry, even when we only see a piece of it growing up.
